Where’s James….???

A few weeks ago, Greg Grumburg, tweeted a photo of himself, on the set of The Rise of Skywalker.

I noted Lee was in the picture……but I didn’t see James…..the guy bent over in front of him 😂

Treadwell Droid - YouTube video shorts

Here are the video links to the activation testing of the head servo's.

Shorts:

The housing design to fit the servo into the eye unit.

Next up is the servo pivot arm test:

These were created the end of last year.
Here are the now powered test videos.

Neck movement test:

And finally, the head 'nod' test:

These last two video's utilised a servo tester unit to actuate the servo. These will of course be remote controlled via a transmitter.

Am really happy that these have worked out.

Thingiverse - Futaba vintage transmitter stand

Thingiverse

Back in 2018, I drew up a display stand for my Futaba M series vintage transmitter. It was one of the first things that I drew up so was basic but it did the job. After finding out that this model was used to operate R5-D4 & possibly the other droids on the set of A New Hope, I had to find out more about them. I was also fortune enough to get two (an M4 & M6) off eBay for a bargain price!
Futaba M6 transmitter

With attending events, having the controller would also be a talking point for people to ask questions. So the stand was simply drawn up and 3D printed.

This is the stand with R5's name and the club's name in raised print.

The M4 version can be seen in the image above.

I've just uploaded the files for this onto my Thingiverse page (click for link)

R5’s five year anniversary

Five years ago today (actually at 7pm GMT) R5 took his first steps, so to speak.

I powered him up and drove him around my driveway. Here’s the link to the short video taken by my Son. https://youtu.be/DyD8eECN9XQ
His dome didn’t have a motor or wheel to control it at this stage of the build. So can be seen, freely moving when he moves in the opposite direction.

James_R5D4 on Instagram 2018

@james_r5d4 Instagram
Posted this up this morning, I thought some other pics
where liked more than some of these, lol.

Being on Instagram (link) long, it's good to
share event pics & project's etc.

I don't do follow for follow stuff, I just post and like what I like.
My stuff is 99% all Star Wars & R5-D4 related,
mostly to my build & projects I work on etc.

It has begun

After doing my research on R5, joining forum's and group's I have got enough info to get started on building my R5-D4. Or should that be, my Son's R5 :-).

Check out the links to these and others I've found, top right of this page.

Haveing easy access to a lathe and other engineering equipment, I started machining up aluminium components that will be fitted to the Dome and Shoulder's. Pics to follow.
Am also pretty good working with wood and plastic etc.
