MCM London - October 27 - Report (..........at last)

What a day!

Awake at 4:30am! Out the door and transport away by 5am. Pick up Jamie en-route, just off the M4 motorway and arrived in plenty of time........

Well, that was the plan.....alarm set wrong PM not AM, I woke up at 6am and then it was a dash to pick up Jamie and on up to London.

Unloaded the car & met Sam, drove R5 to the lifts & up to the arena. Lee (P6B-LT2) was a surprise attendance as he was available & Simon (R2-FETT) were there. Simon was off else where so we didn't get many/any photo's of his droid.

Early door's opened and the event was crowded then till about 3pm, when it seemed to thin out a bit.
P6B-LT2 (track droid from 'Solo') R2-SHP & R5-D4(left to right)

For once, we didn't have an R2-D2 unit in attendance, though that did mean the rest of the droids got some attention lol.

The 501st display was right next to one of the stages for talks, so we were always swamped by people queing up and then leaving after each talk.
The kid who does cosplay (family) were there.
Have seen them at events but not able to catch up with them.
Managed to get a photo for Rogue One.
Other costumed people I was able to get a photo of with R5 were:
Qi'ra - Solo a Star Wars Story

A Rebel Pilot

The Tardis Dr Who
The Tardis

Dr Who, Jodi Whittaker
Dr Who
We did manage to have a lunch break & ice cream too. The rest of the afternoon was a bit quieter and a bit more available time to take photos. Not that it looks quieter in these pictures lol.

There were loads of cosplayer's as well as general public in non cosplay outfits. Loads of stalls, brands, other displays to see. We did get to walk round once, and with both halls open, it is a massive complex!

The event eventually closed up just before 7pm, which was when we were able to pack up the droids & for me & Jamie, start our long drive home. Another fun day with Lee, Sam & Jamie, lots of laughs & chat's bout droid stuff lol

Next event is
MCM Birmingham, Saturday 24th November.
This will be a BIG one for the club, with 15 builders, with a minimum of 15 droids, some  builders may be bringing two droids! Only three of us only attending on the Saturday, the rest will be there both day.

Event's requests are already coming in for 2019 to the club,
so a lot to look forward to attending.

Upcoming Events - Autumn 2018

Not being able to attend many event's over the summer months, it's good to know that I've got a few booked in over the next few months.

There are a few that are on over two/three days, but due to family commitments, I'll only be able to attend these for one day, Saturday.

October is:
Feel The Force Day
To be confirmed, but hopefully R5 will be there on Saturday 6th, Peterbourgh. Other members to be confirmed, but this is such a great event that there's usually a few astromechs in attendance. It's not just Star Wars, its ALL across the Cosplay spectrum, with lots of great things going on. So check out the website for more info.

MCM London - Sunday 27th May - UK R2D2 Builders Club

Day two for early starts and a long drive up to London. The last time I was here was 2016, for Celebration Europe! That was THE best event I have ever been too!

Checkout my past posts on the event reports start here

Easy drive up and around the M25, which brings you right round to the Excel turn-off. Think I actually passed the hotel I previously stayed in back in 2016. Once cleared with security I parked up and unloaded R5 with the help of fellow R2D2 builder Sam Prentice. We set up next to the 501st. We were joined by Paul Stidston (spotter) & Simon Battell with his R2 Boba Fett painted droid.

The early bird doors opened and it wasn’t long before people found us lol.

There was lots to see but thankfully the event wasn’t as packed as Saturday. Paul mentioned this as the crowds and the temperature inside the event the previous day were overwhelming!

We went for a drive around the event,
R5 off on his travels...........
Afternoon myself & Paul went to get a cuppa, 20mins later and umpteen photos later lol, we arrived, got drinks and found a corner table to sit down. (Having being stood up nearly all day, as per usual). People wanted photos of R5, so I drove him away from as a short distance. Still in visual and vocal range lol. This was a good laugh as people would stop, chat, take photos with him & R5 would follow people etc and people would be trying to look around to see who was operating him.

R5's transmitter started beeping, so we headed back.....eventually, through the photos lol.

Got back and Brain Herring & Derek Arnold popped over, to catch up with Lee (who unfortunately could be there the weekend). We had a group chat and laugh about recent events lol & they were both kind enough to have a group photo with us and the droids.

There was plenty more crowed entertaining. Including R5 & R2 squabbling over Liz lol... R5 wasn't happy about R2 getting her attention.

Come five o'clock, the crowds started to thin out. So we started to pack up and made our way through the leaving crowds back to our cars. For me it was then a long drive back to Bristol. It was a good day and as always lots of fun.

Solo - A Star Wars Story & MCM London

Only a few more days till the film's release here in the UK.
I just need to book tickets......Yes, I know, talk about leaving it till the last minute......

So that's (hopefully) Thursday sorted.

Then Saturday is part one of a long weekend for me & R5. As we'll be joining Joker Squad again at the Milton Keynes cinema for the day.

this is from when we attended the Rogue One event
So I'll post up about this on James R5D4 Instagram on the day.

Then Sunday, for me, it's another early start to drive up to London, to join the others who, for some, have have been there since Friday!

So look out for the UK R2D2 Builders Club if your there & follow on the club on Instagram
