10 Year anniversary of R5’s build completion

As we like to say, no droid build is ever REALLY completed lol. But when all the pieces are there and he’s motorised & moving (and cleared), we call that the completed build stage.

2024 marks 10 years since I finished building R5!

That same year also marked his first event:

Flashback - Star Wars heels 2014

These came up on my time line the other day, so thought I'd share this flashback to 2014.

Back story, for those who haven't been following my Blog since back then lol. A friend had seen some decoupaged Star Wars shoes and had paid for them to be commisioned, but was ripped off by the seller and never recieved them. So I looked into how difficult it was to be able to do.

This was an interesting project to work on. Artistic still, but no wood lol. After completing this I was asked to make a few more, different designed shoes for other friends.

Star Wars shoes - Wedges Revenge

Han Solo costume for my Son........'never tell me the odds!'

Posted up the other day about new project for my Son. With things going on plus not having the time or funds to dedicate fully to this project, nothing more than research, happened [2014].

Well, with the film release of The Force Awakens last Dec, my two youngest cosplayers need's were re-ignited lol. My daughter, 8, is happy to just have a bought Rey outfit, which is OK, phew, but I'll add extras to make her outfit a bit special. Jacob tho is a different matter being older lol.

So been searching and updating my links, knowledge again and a friend (Karen, who I made SW shoes for) has offered to help with the making & teaching me how to sow with a sowing machine, again. Last sowing machine i used i was 11 at school lol. I can sow/stitch by hand tho, another little skill taught me by my late Mother x

Being on some great forums, gives you access to a wealth of knowledge, and this has helped enormously!! Also links to Cosplayer 'build' blogs etc.

This outfit will be as accurate as possible, but also practical for young person to be wearing and on a tight'ish budget! One big saving is the Stormtrooper belt & drop boxes, as he'll be able to borrow mine off my TK armour, just needs a belt adjustment lol.

Karen was kind enough to go looking for suitable material for the jacket this weekend and am waiting a sample for the 'blood stripes' for the trousers.

Star Wars Shoes - the return

My friend who was helping out at last Saturdays event,

wore her new Star Wars covered shoes (her wedge ones).

She also took her other pair, but decided best not to wear them, whilst in 'help mode'.

They were spotted and commented on by several people. And a few pictures were taken.

These were then Tweeted on Jedi News!

STAR WARS shoes..... Pt.2 - Wedges Revenge

Inbetween working on R5 I had time to work on two more pairs of shoe requests.
One pair of 'Avengers' heels & another pair with 'Justice League/Avengers'.
Both gratefully recieved :)

Didn't have any finished pictures taken of the Avengers pair.

Have also been asked to do another pair of Star Wars shoes, due to the strappy style,
the wedge part of the shoe has been covered.
These are wanted to be a day-to-day pair and keep the others I made,
for special occasions, like the Chippenham Sci-Fi event in October.
Where she will be a helper, so needs 'a more sensible pair of heels' lol

Star Wars Shoes 1.3 - finished

Another hour or so Sunday night, to do edging and the finishing touches.......

And hear they are..............

Last request is to have pictures of R5 on the underside of the shoe,
so that will be the final addition, but for now they are finished.

Another few hours working last night, mostly on the edges, but also got the front done.
Almost finished.
My friend is VERY excited lol.

finished off detail to outside face, most work done to inside face....

Another fw hours working on both pairs.

Just to recap how I did these. First I read the comic book from cover to cover lol.

I then cut out 'iconic' images, Vader, Han, X-Wings, Tie's, Stormtroopers etc.
Next, I looked for & cut out enlarged text printed, sound effects etc.
These were added on top of the pictures.

This next bit is just me, I selected what I wanted & where I wanted these main images to go.
I then applied the mod podge onto an area of the shoe.
I started at the back along the seem and applied my first piece.
Some of the larger pieces I cut 'bend cuts' into, to help curve to the shoe. I then applied mod podge onto first piece and overlapped with next picture piece.
Just continued all around the shoe.

After she showed all her friends the work in progress pics,
I now I have a request to make a pair of 'Avengers' heels lol.

Star Wars shoes 1.0

A female friend of mine 'K', who loves Star Wars, wanted a pair of Star Wars heels.
She found a woman on Facebook, who would decorated shoes.
She had asked me (back in September 2013) if I could do it, but didn't have time
or the know how,to make them in time for when she wanted them.

So she 'ordered and paid' this woman to make/cover a pair of heels with Star Wars pics on them. This process is called decoupage and you use a product called 'mod podge'. After waiting months [longer than originally stated], they never arrived and because it was longer than 3 months, Paypal said there's nothing they can now do!
So I said I'd have a look into how to do it.

She also asked for a pic of R5 to appear on them lol.

Before working on them.... Those keen eyes among you will notice this is an old pic ;D

Sunday was May 4th, so as good a day as any to start on K's shoes.

I had read 'how to' sites but was still not sure if I could do 'random' cutting up??
So deliberatly cutting random, cut-n-paste, is new to me............ 
.............well not since I was in primary school, lol.
The pics are ones sent for progress updates & to confirm she was happy with them.

This took about 3hrs to do and I did manage to start on the other shoe.
