Body & Centre Leg assembly
It was getting late, as usual, but wanted to see what R5 looked like now that the skin was starting to take shape. So here are a few pics :)
Sorry, this pic's not in focus.
Also note that the foot is not locked yet, hence it's position.
As you can see, I don't have the luxury of space in my garage :D lol

Centre Leg - white paint job
Friday I sprayed up the centre leg with a few layers of white paint. Looks good. I'll spray with the clear coat, once all the work on the wedge detail has been done.
And here it is with it's Ankle Cylinders fitted. No wedges yet or ankle/foot bolt hole drilled.
Oh and I sprayed up R5's skirt, just in the picture

R5's Center Leg, Shoulder Disc & Body Skirt
After a two week holiday with the family, it was time to catch up on R5.
Concentrated on sanding, fillering, sanding some more and a bit more filling........ you get the picture. Bought some grey primer. I prefer this to white as it shows up imperfections more easier to see. Also bought some more of Tesco's own wood filler. The centre leg is looking good now.
Whilst the leg was drying etc I did some touching up on the skirt section of R5. Applied filler & sanded, then sprayed with grey primer . Then re-filler imperfections. Tried to re-strain from making it look to good as R5 is supposed to be well used! lol. Time spent about an 1hr total.
I then did a bit more work on the second Shoulder Disc, more filling and sanding:

R5's Skirt update
Cut out the rest of the skirt pieces. After positioning them I measured the gaps & marked up the flat pieces that fit in between. Next, I marked the skirts position on the base & drilled holes for screwing it to the base. glue & screw them all together. Secured the MDF angles using car body resin.
Spent an hour with wood filler, then sanding, spray primeing (to show where extra filler was needed), then more wood filler. Looks a bit rough but that will just add to the 'worn' look of R5.

R5's Skirt update to the last update......
I thought to myself, those angle pieces look a bit close to the edge?? But They were the right'ish angle?? Checked my calculations on the plans........ :-(
When reading the dimensions to cut the four internal side walls. I hadn't looked at the big bold text next to it saying not those, these dimensions.
Due to the thickness of the wood I was using I should of made the side walls shorter!!
So first thing this morning, in work, I cut the side walls down to size. Skirt height is now 2.5" high.
I then started applying filler.

R5-D4's Skirt **UPDATE**
Whilst paint was drying. I got back on with the skirt. I drilled & screwed the four pieces i'd already cut, onto the skirt base.

I'm going with this idea http://podpadstudior9.blogspot.com/2011/04/body-so-far.html on how to make the skirt.
thats as far as i got, with the 'free time' i had lol.
