Mike’s been building Droids again : Part 2

This weekend, the ‘Droid Builders UK’ attended MCM Comic-Con at the NEC Birmingham.

This was Mike’s new static two leg droids first outing (minus the dome LED’s I’ve not finished yet 😞).

For part 1, click here
Reports were that Friday was relatively quiet, not surprisingly as most people work and kids would be at school, and as good as it might be, taking a day off either isn’t in most peoples plans.

Saturday thought was business as usual (compared to previous Saturdays). And the stand was right near the entrance.

If someone does an event report, I’ll link to it in a new Blog post.

As for Mike’s droids….Emma posted this up on the FB group.

After chatting with Mike about this new droids designation (name), he said perhaps, ‘T4-G0’.
Nik suggested ‘B3-RY’….??
So we’re still awaiting confirmation.

Mike said the response was very good 👍🏽
….. I just need to finish off those light sets.

Event report: Stars of Time @ Swindon steam museum

Short drive up the motorway to Swindon’s steam museum, after a detour due to an overturned lorry blocked a junction to actually get ONTO said motorway.

Parked up and unloaded R5 & helped Mike unload his van of three droids!
Yes…..3!!

One being R2-XL….

Mike also supplied the new table cover…

Joining us was Jamie with his (mini) A-LT droid, Mark T (with his special guest) helping out with XL & Marine.
The……. #Bristolians 😂😂😂

Lunchtime….

Old (well…..young), ex work colleague 😂👍🏽

We weren’t in the best place, cobblestone floor and joints to tarmac, but we were still able to move about and people found the droids they were looking for 😂👍🏽. The rest of the museum had good flooring and the main stall hall was carpeted. Milton Keynes garrison were in attendance with Stormtroopers, Mando from the Mandalorian. Other visuals were Daleks, Wookies, Dinosaurs, as well as Podpad studios ‘bikes display’ and car from Blade Runner 2048.

R2-XL had lots of interest and raised some money for the Motor Neurone Disease association.

It was a very busy day, and Mike’s R2’s had the attention of a local radio presenter as well as a TV camera, to later appear on the local news.

I actually took more video than photos, so to see more…. Here’s a link to my YouTube channel with a short clip of the day.

Publicity afternoon: for Bristol M-shed museum (July 3rd 2022)

 Saturday 4th June:

Myself and Mike B, did a promotional afternoon handing out event info flyers for next month’s event at Bristol’s M-shed.

The weather held up and actually got quite hot later in the afternoon. As my head will testify to 😂. The harbour side was very busy, with people taking in the boats, the steam train as well as the food eateries and a couple of random Star Wars droids.

Young and young at heart enjoyed seeing the droids and we were thanked for letting people know about the upcoming event. See, it pays to advertise lol.

11am till 4:30pm handing out flyers and chatting….

I’d printed about 60 A4 sheets of paper, each with four flyers on…..we handed out ALL of them!!! Plus ones that Mike had printed.

Made a short video (edited to 1min, so worth a quick watch):

Please #bristol, share this video with friends who would love to see the droids, big thanks.

Details can also be found on the Whats-on website.

Event - MegaCON @ NEC Birmingham

Birmingham's NEC arena will be R5's next event!
Really looking forward to heading back to the NEC as it means that (due to it's central location) more of the club members are able to attend, 10 droids (potentially).

I’ll be heading up with Mike B & possibly Paul F, for the one day, Saturday 26th.
This new event will be being held in Hall 1.

So check out the website via link and hopefully we’ll see you there!

Mike's new droid - B5-BZ from The Clone Wars TV series

Back in January 2020, Mike finished building his....... umpteenth droid lol. [post dated July 2024]

But he wanted something different, so he built a Clone Wars TV series version (cartoon) version of B5-BZ, seen in 'D Squad'.

The design is a more simpler one, with less details, but retaining the aesthetics' of an Astromech seen in the live action films.

He renamed BZ to KN-B1 in honour of his late Father.

You can read all about his work on the Droid Builders UK,
