Remembering Jeremy Bulloch

 May the 4th

…is always a special day for Star Wars and this year will be the first since covid restrictions, that people will be able to celebrate it out in the open, so to speak.

There are events planned at stores etc across the UK, so keep your eyes open when out and about.

**********************

On a more somber note, the fourth, will also be the auction of Jeremy Bulloch’s estate:

Jeremy played amongst other characters over his acting career, Boba Fett! The original, first seen in The Empire Strikes Back.

The proceeds from this auction of many items, will benefit Parkinson’s UK, the disease Jeremy had been suffering with before his passing.

********************

I met Jeremy a few times since first meeting him back in 2010, when my Son was a big Boba Fett fan. He was attending CorshamSciFi. He was really chatty with him and myself. He was only the second person I had met, Dave Prowess being the first and later Richard LeParmentier.

My last meeting with him was to show him R5 that i had made since our first meet. He kindly accepted having his photo taken.

Watching Solo at the cinema with my youngest.

Solo - Odeon cinema card 3D printed display stand

I had a spare Solo card from the recent Milton Keynes event, so took it into work for my desk area. This got me thinking, why not 3D print a stand for it??

Then a fellow builder had been going to see Solo multiple times and had been asked to pick up the card set for other members lol. So I thought, why not make a stand to hold all four cards.
Solo a star wars story
So I drew up a simple display stand in AutoCAD Inventor. Unfortunately my works 3D printer bed is too small to print as one piece, so I had to cut it up into two. Which they then snapped together, for a perfect fit.

Here's the first piece with two cards slotted in place.
Solo a star wars story
They are a nice snug fit, not loose, but also not to tight that you have to force them in. There was a bit of lifting off the bed on this first print.

Here's an above view.

Then it was on with printing the second side.

The simple, copy and save as second side lol. They snap together perfectly, more luck than expert engineering tho :D

And here are the tow pieces clicked together with just the one card, forgot to bring in the others to work.

I kept the one piece version as well,
so will be posting up both onto my
Thingiverse
account if anyone wants to display their cards. Thanks for viewing.

Solo @ Milton Keynes - Saturday 26th May 2018

Early rise for the drive up to Milton Keynes Odeon IMax cinema, for the day's event.
Myself with R5, Mike with his M80 Glynn with his R2-PHT & Adam with his R2. We were joined my fellow R2D2 builders Chris W & later, Stuart B. Joker Squad were kitted up and ready to welcome the first catch of the day lol. Lots of people passed through and had their pictures taken. As usual some were a bit surprised to see us all. Chris has posted lots up on Instagram & also on the R2 Facebook page.

SPOILER FREE

Mid morning myself and Mike were allowed to store our droids safely in the projection room, where we also got the low down on how it all works. Then we went in to watch Solo, in IMax 3D!

There was a few more things spotted the second time of watching lol But for us, the biggest surprise was after the film had finished! Can’t say any more than that lol.

~~~
After the film, we powered up the droids and headed back down to the entrance foyer, where we rolled them around for photos and mischief with parents and kids alike lol.
We picked up some of the Solo cards, as these were free.
Later in the afternoon, we all got together for a group photo.
I had to say my goodbyes around 5pm as had to get back, for an early night, ready for my next event on Sunday.
The collection on the day raised for
(Children's Hospice)
was over £300.00!
UK R2 Builders - The Last Jedi @ Odeon IMAX 2017 - Event Report
Location: IMAX Odeon cinema, Milton Keynes
Groups:   UK R2D2 Builders Club & Joker Squad
An early start Saturday morning (R5 was already loaded up the night before). It was a crisp clear morning, stars were still out, no traffic on the motorway, tunes on the radio.... 😊
**This Event Report contains NO SPOILERS!!**
Arrived just after 9am (2 hour drive up), I met the others who were already unloaded & did the same. Then it was time for our viewing of The Last Jedi, in the IMAX screen. WOW!! I thought the film looked good when I saw it Thursday night with the kids, but the IMAX's depth of field, made the space scene's even more amazing!
Once out of the screening, we set up the droids to join the Joker Squad members who were trooping already. Just had time to say hi to fellow club member Stuart Bone, who was only able to attend for a few hours with his R2, but was good to see him out and about.
The rest of the day was then rolling around and having fun & photo's being taken.
 R5 & Matt's R2-D2
Just some of the Joker Squad group
Here more pictures, that were taken by fellow R2 Builder: Chris Williams.
The faces and the reactions speak for how great a time everyone had.
And here's a pics of some of us lol
Matt, Chris, Emma, Mike & Me.
Not in the pic's are Lee T & Adam S.
We all stopped for a sit down meal in TGI's, which was just next door, then back into the cinema for a last hour or so of fun, selfies, group pics and entertaining the visiting film go'ers.
We eventually finished up, loaded up and once Emma had cut the cake for Colin's birthday, we said our goodbyes and headed off home. Mine being the furthest, but as always, well worth it!
Checkout more pics of the event on Instagram using #astromech, #ukr2d2buildersclub #miltonkeynes as examples.
The combined efforts of the clubs,
we raised a grand total of £500!
For our chosen charity
The Last Jedi - tonight's film
THIS POST IS SPOILER FREE!
Been waiting to see this and now it's here. I've only seen the first trailer and have avoided speculation etc as to how the film's story line goes. Toys and other pictures aside, I know nothing beyond what has been shown.
With all the recent Premier event's, that friends have attended (with & without R2-D2's), am really looking forward to tonight's 7:15pm (GMT) screening with my two hyped up kids lol.
~~~

Then on Saturday, myself & R5 will be joining other members of the Club for a day event at Milton Keynes Cinema, like last year's Rogue One film release. I'll be posting up pictures from there on my Instagram account & Twitter as well no doubt lol

December updates......Rogue One

Not posted up for a while, been busy working on and re-working Jessika Pava helmet.

Jessika Pava Helmet
It definitely needed to be smaller, which I posted up a while back, so have been re-working the size, fibreglassing, body fillering, sanding re filling ....repeat. The next plan is to go the cast route which I've been reading up on. You tube to the rescue lol, as i think this would be best. Wouldn't want anything to happen to the helmet and it be damaged.

Due to work issues, internet access has been restricted, and this was the only available free time I could update this blog, it will have to wait now till the new year.

Rogue One
WOW!!! I took the wife and kids to see the film on the Thursday (here in the UK) and we weren't disappointed!! It had everything a 'war' film should have plus it was Star Wars lol.
A lot of people have moaned about changes made, but personally i felt the film flowed and the continuity flowed though out. No spoilers, ill just say I wasn't disappointed and the kids enjoyed it too, which if kids get it, why can't adults ??? Lol.

Friday, was an early start and a long'ish drive to Milton Keynes, to meet up with fellow UK R2 Builders and Joker Squad. We were attending the iMax cinema's Rogue One day. Was great to catch up with everyone and raise cash for charity.
Will add updates and photos in the New Year.

There's another builders group day after Christmas to look forward too as well.

So for now, I'd like to wish everyone who follows this blog & has visited here a happy & Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Lots of good things to look forward to in 2017, so stay positive people :)

Im now on instagram also on Twitter and Facebook lol.

Really looking forward to go as will get to meet up with fellow UK R2 Builders again. There are also a few other reasons, which I'll update with after the event.

I hope to be tweeting updates about the day on R5's Twitter account.

R5's Facebookpage will also get updates as well.

R5-D4 astromech droid
Sunday was R5's second motorised event, joining the Uk R2 Builders on the second day at Collectormania 22 @ Milton Keynes (MK Dons football) arena.

Doors open at 9am, so it was an early start for me. I was up at 5:40am and out the door & on the road by 6:00am! R5 was already loaded the night before. Then the two hour plus, drive up to Milton Keynes. Which wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be lol.
R5-D4

Arrived around 8:30am and after a quick re-con, started to unload and assemble R5. There were queuing people out side, some dressed up.
Capitan America
The group were up on the second floor balcony, along with James from XRobots with his 3D printer & also Joker Squad. First floor was the 'computer games' floor, Milton Keynes Garrison & Dr Who show props, costumes & Dareks.
XRobots

James, in the above picture, was showing visitors 'live' 3D printing of components and explaining the process. Lots of people managed to find us still and were treated to music and dance lol, not from us, but from the droids.
