Work done, Pre-Christmas, update:
After printing off the ‘claw’ arm components, I wasn’t really happy with the dimensions. Assumption is the mother of all ¥€$#-%%’s 🙄
After taking the info originally suggested that I had then used to search up and used to draw and print, the ’piston’ parts, I thought I’d use the original photo and scale the parts from it.
Having the ‘claw’ as a datum dimension, I could scale the photo to more accurately measure the parts. Turns out they are close to being correct, but not 100% lol. I’ll post up dimensions that better match and if possible, the matching product codes from Clippard.
So I modified the files and printed them off, this time though I had sectioned them into two halves for Tevo home printer.
They printed out nicely.
Have ordered some carbon fibre rods for the piston arms, should arrive in the New Year.
SERVOS
Having tested a standard 995 servo I had, it wasn't up to the torque to hold the head/eyes due to the weight of them. So I took a shot at a 25Kg version.
I had also purchased a Micro 20Kg servo for the 'Claw' arm, which on testing could easily move and hold the head/eye assembly, so the 25Kg servo should work great. So I need to design up a housing for this.
I’ve also been working on how to activate the Claw to open & close…..
I can't use the Micro 20Kg servo for the head/eye assembly as it doesn't quite fit in the opening, plus it doesn't have side mounting brackets like standard servos.
NECK:
I knew I’d missed a piece off the top of the neck ring.
So drew it up and printed it off. I was going to print the screws as part of it but decided that real screws would look better. It’s glued in position, awaiting screws.
MAST:
Test fitted all the mast pieces together onto the PVC tube.
Test assembly of Mast
Above picture shows the printed pieces so far. Part 7, is also printed and can be seen in the ‘Test assembly of Mast’ photo.Am also putting together a short video on the progress of this build.
Check out this YouTube channel for Paul’s Bots, who’s building his second Treadwell droid. He is one of the two original builds I have used as guides, over on the rebel droids forum.
