Thought id post up a short video explaining the process
for how I created the 3D printable micro-prop
seen in the previous post, from Andor.

Celebration Europe 2023 starts here: Day T-1

So last night I picked up the hire van and its big lol. Well it’s not just for me but also Mike’s droids as well as a few other things/props etc.

Thursday 6th April: T-1
Loaded up all my things into the van and then headed down into town to pick up Mike and all his droids etc.

Loading everything in, good job I’m the Tetris king 😂👍🏽. Once complete, it was time for the drive up to London.

I’ll post part 2 of T-1 (T minus 1 day) Thursday evening (hopefully lol)

Mike’s been building Droids again

Mike’s been busy these last few weeks (September 2022) building a static two legged Astromech for an upcoming display.

He re-purposed one of his R2 domes for this project, used foot shells he hadn’t used, then made up a frame, legs, battery boxes out of wood. 3D printed details and then assembled everything together.

Once painted it was time to REALLY weather him. He asked me if I could make some lights up, nothing perfect, just something to blink as this droid needs ‘fixing’.

So I 3D printed off some of my own FLD (holed) units and got to soldering up some LED’s.
Not bad soldering

First set I only added two flashing LED’s as was all I had to hand. Ordered some more and these will go into this and the second set.

Mike asked me to make up another motor shaft adaptor for his dome motor cog. This I machined out of Brass.

3D printed: prop display screen

I salvaged an LCD screen a while back and thought it would be a good idea to install it into a Star Wars style ‘control/display panel’. After testing the screen, it wouldn’t even light up….never mind.

This wasn’t going to deter me, so on with some searching and got some ideas. Next up was designing.

Version 1, I wasn’t happy with, something was missing…..angled edges and bolt fixing holes.
Version 2, mid design changes.

Version 2:
I did a save-as, and added a raised panel,  upper right, with the intention of adding a working dial to it. I then added ‘fake’ rocker style switches, like the ones seen on panels.

Version 3:
Had the switches removed, and replaced with holes instead, so I could use normal switches or 3D printed useable switches.

Version 4:
Was a screen only version panel. This was a simple basic design.

I then had a thought about backlighting the panel, but wanted something to be illuminated. The illuminated space charts with arc’s on came to mind, so I drew up a grid with arc’s etc and 3D printed it to fit into the panel from behind, with a plastic translucent screen in front.

More 3D Star Wars stuff

Made some design changes to the panel I drew up and printed for my GOUD-4 mouse droid.

Changed the grill panel to a bank of buttons for this first one.

Then for the second panel I swapped the holoprojector for a square panel that a meshed grill can be installed as an intercom.

Working on making the buttons functional.

These will be uploaded to my Prusa account page after some minor updates.
